A group of families, with a common desire, met to discuss organizing a place of worship in their community. They agreed to form Koinonia Baptist Church (Koinonia is the Greek word meaning “fellowship”). They opened the doors of their homes in Duncanville for this purpose until a building could be found. Leading these families of believers as pastor was the late Rev. Willie Pipkins.
In November 1979, a committee was formed to write the church Constitution and By-Laws. Through hard work and dedication these documents were drafted and by the spring of 1980 the church was officially formed. In 1981, the church was able to move their services into a storefront at 718 N. Main Street in Duncanville, Texas under the leadership of Rev. David Maxey as pastor.
In September 1983, the first Deacon, Brother Jesse Cummings, Sr. was ordained and the church began fellowshipping with other churches and ministries. In 1984, in an effort to help fellow Christians identify with the church and take away the mystery of the name for others, the church translated its name from its Greek origin to Loving Fellowship Baptist Church. During the years 1985 through 1989, the church saw many new faces and experienced many wonderful things of God.
In September 1990, the church acquired, relocated and held its first worship service at 602 W. Wheatland Road. Also, in order to identify with all believers, the church adopted and changed its name to Loving Fellowship Christian Church.
In November 1996, a dear loving man, Rev. Ocie Brisby was appointed pastor. With that appointment, the church readopted the name Loving Fellowship Baptist Church once again. Pastor and Sister Brisby lovingly lead Loving Fellowship through transition, witnessing the goodness of the Lord as He continued to shower the church with His blessings. However, in June of 1999, the Lord called Pastor Brisby home to glory. This loving man’s passing left a huge void in the hearts of this body of believers. With his passing, the church formed a Pulpit Search Committee and on October 24, 1999, Loving Fellowship selected and appointed Dr. Michael D. Sneed as pastor.
With the future ahead, the mantle has been passed on to Pastor Sneed and his wife Dorothy. Under the guidance of God and the leadership of Dr. and 1st Lady Sneed, we have experienced tremendous growth in the ministry over the past several years. God has blessed us to pay in full and “shred” the note on our former location; acquire, pay in full and start construction on 5 acres at the corner of W. Wintergreen Rd. and Mantlebrook Dr. in DeSoto, Texas
On March 10, 2013, with the construction of our new 23,000 sq. ft. worship center completed, we relocated and held our first service at 610 W. Wintergreen Rd. DeSoto, Texas. To God Be The Glory!
We have a “Spirit of Expectation” that God will continue to bless us and move us unto a new level where we will experience His Glory, bask in His Presence, receive His Blessing, praise His Name and witness His Power. All for His Glory!
WELCOME TO LOVING FELLOWSHIP BAPTIST CHURCH!
“LOVING”, It's Not Just Our Name, It's Our ATTITUDE!
